Top 100 Architecture Trends in 2017

From Floating Hurricane-Resistant Homes to LEGO-Like Gardens:

Architects often get teased for their sense of self-importance, but the 2017 architecture trends show that the practice is indeed important in society as a whole. Especially with regard to the current climate surrounding, well, the climate, the ability to create buildings with green features is increasingly important.

In theory, buildings are meant to be permanent structures. In practice, modern developments eventually lead to the dismantling of many buildings, but in any case most buildings stand for decades (if not centuries). Considering the long-term impact of buildings on the urban landscape and the potential carbon footprint that these buildings contribute, building them with efficiency in mind is essential. Fortunately, many architects are doing just that.

For example, Vincent Callebaut Architectures, a French studio, has developed an energy-positive resort that produces energy rather than consuming it thanks to renewable energy sources dotted throughout the landscape. Many other architects are embracing size reductions to save energy, with tiny homes well represented in the 2017 architecture trends.
