British design studio Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled its new design for the River Culture and Art Centre in Zheijang Shaoxing Shangyu District Cao. The art center has a sweeping structure that is meant to be a centerpiece in the district. The building is set on the banks of the river and features local and international productions of arts and entertainment.
The studio shares, "These outdoor gathering spaces flow into terraced landscapes which surround the center and connect directly with the city, giving Shaoxing's residents and visitors a variety of natural parklands and gardens for relaxation and recreation along the river."
It has rendered the roof in a modern form with a cloaked application in a way that reflects the region's ancient Celadon ceramics. It continues, "In this way, traditional materials and innovative architecture are integrated coherently, defining a 21st-century cultural building with a direct connection to the region's ancient past."
