International architecture firm Snohetta has designed a prefabricated cabin called Gapahuk for Rindalshytter, a Norwegian leisure home producer. Though modern and luxurious in appearance, Gapahuk stands apart from other houses on offer from Rindalshytter because of its rugged capabilities: the home was designed to be built up among the mountains of Norway, where harsh weather rocks the environment almost year round.
Gapahuk's roof is one example of its ruggedness. Though the slope that dips far deeper on one end might look like little more than an architectural flourish, it's actually a guard against the raging gales that blow through high elevation regions in Norway. Since Gapahuk is a prefab home, it can be built in any orientation to have that roof slope face the windiest direction.
