Norway-based design studio Saunders Architecture created the Y House, which is exactly as it is described. The home is shaped like the letter Y and it is clad in Corten steep materials with glazing from floor to ceiling. The team ensured that the home blended seamlessly with its neighborhood, known as the Carraig Ridge community. This is a rural retreat that is by the Rocky Mountains located near Calgary, Alberta.
The team at Saunders Architecture team explains the overarching design concept of the nestled neighborhood, stating, "Each site has its view, topography and slightly different environmental conditions, so each of the family of houses that we designed needed to have its own form, shape and plan. We never let form be the driving force of our designs, but ultimately each house became a letter, like the Y House, and we went with that concept."
