Igniting interest in a cause is no small feat, prompting those within the philanthropy industry to pay close attention to all charity trends. This past year saw more creative takes on charity than ever before. Taking the celebrity-endorsed cause marketing pattern of 2012 a step further, 2013 was the year of celebrity-created charities. Some celebrities even went so far as to create and sell pieces for charity, as seen with the celeb-designed ornaments.
Mass participation, whether in the form of crowdfunding, crowdsourcing or even online participation like pay-per-tweet, was another huge charity trend in 2013. This was most notably seen in the selfless selfie Instagram campaign in the name of providing relief for victims of Hurricane Haiyan.
