Augmented reality, which once belonged exclusively to the realm of science-fiction, has become increasingly accessible to the broader public via the use of AR phone apps. The technology is typically utilized in combination with a viewing device that superimposes computer-generated images onto a user's view of the world.
This collection of phone apps employ AR technology in a variety of new and interesting ways. For example, Burberry began offering an AR application that allows users to 'try on' different handbags to ensure the right style and fit, while Pizza Hut launched an app that turns the tops of its Pizza Boxes into an interactive game of Pac-Man.
Despite AR proving to be an effective advertising and marketing tool, it has also begun gaining traction in the art world. For instance, Amplifier, a design hub dedicated to igniting social change, has released a series of AR art posters that activate when viewed through a phone app.
