When Models Stay At Home

Actors, actresses, musicians, classic movie and music icons, TV celebrities, eccentric performers and even cartoon characters seem to be a more recurrent choice in fashion campaigns for fashion and cosmetic brands. From luxury brands like Louis Vuitton or Balenciaga, to more affordable brands like Pepe Jeans or Mango, celebrities are often chosen over models.
Although fashion brands have always been associated with celebs, this is a trend that has been growing over the last few years and is far more common nowadays.
Artists, especially cinema and TV stars, create a more direct connection with the viewer than supermodels. Perhaps it’s due to a role that we identify with or for a more approachable beauty than the intangible figures of supermodels. The campaigns are also more effective when there is an immediately recognizable figure in the ad - be it the hilarious Dame Edna or the charismatic Keith Richards, sexy Josh Hartnett or glamorous Erykha Badu.
Here are some of the best fashion campaigns with old, new and possibly upcoming icons!
