If life could be "shaken and erased," the Eric Fehrnstrom 'Etch-A-Sketch' method of deleting previous political platforms and promises from the record would be brilliant.

Unfortunately, real life doesn't work like the red, knobby drawing toy that lets one shake the slate clean and start over again with a better idea.

Although things said publicly on the Presidential campaign trail can't be taken back (as Gov. Mitt Romney's senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom has suggested) one can find some inspiration in inventions that let them erase at least some parts of their life.

Items such as erasable toner that remove ink and delete key-themed pencil erasers question the tangible permanence of everything from words on a page to information stored on an electronic device.

The Mitt Romney Etch-A-Sketch comment may have been humorous, but there are always new inventions surfacing that are geared specifically toward being able to 'take back' something that one has put out into the world.
