38 High-Tech Disability Aids

From Braille Smartphones to Vision-Supplementing Glasses:

Wheelchairs, canes and hearing aids are known as some of the most fundamental disability aids out there, but the advances in technology are continually making it possible for more specialized equipment to be created.

In an attempt to address public accessibility in all spaces, Transport for London is now using a beacon system to guide passengers with vision impairments. On a larger scale, a landscaping manufacturer in the UK came up with a concept to transform city infrastructure with IoT for the purposes of helping people with disabilities get around.

Until many of these ideas are fully realized around the world, many people are turning to personal devices and mobile apps as supplementary tools for navigation, mobility, vision and more. One of the most forward-thinking apps is one called 'ThirdEye,' which provides image recognition for shoppers with visual impairments in retail environments.
