From Slim Skyscraper Concepts to Updated Urban Edifices
Joey Haar — July 30, 2017 — Art & Design
There are countless factors that contribute to changes in architectural style over time, but the July 2017 architecture trends show that one of the biggest of those is continual improvements to computer modeling systems. In the past, lead architects and engineers were limited by what they had time to test by hand in model settings, whereas today architects can run thousands of concepts in a span of seconds, giving them far more freedom to experiment without risk.
'New(er) York' is a graphic example of that change. The project involved architects taking the forms of popular buildings in New York City and reimagining them with the benefit of modern technology and ideas. The result is buildings that look somewhat related to their progenitors, and yet they have far more aggressive and impressive shapes.
