From KFC's Double Down to Carl's Jr's hot dog and potato chip-topped burger, over-the-top, excessive fast food menu items are a great way for brand's to get widespread coverage on social media. The wow-factor attached to such extraordinary dishes as popcorn chicken-topped waffles or chicken fries is enough to entice plenty of consumers to try it out and document the experience on social media.
A seemingly stark contrast to the progression toward health conscious eating and drinking, excessive fast food indulgence is the fun other end of the spectrum. Following in line with the "cheat day" mentality, it is not unreasonable to imagine that an individual who has been abstaining from fast food will go all out and indulge in an over-the-top dish on the one day a month they do.
