Colin Smith — April 12, 2022 — Tech
As one of the fastest evolving sectors of technology, this list of April 2022 computers trends showcases improved wi-fi devices, personalizable PCs and peripherals, and a slew of hybrid workplace-focused software.
This month, Apple unveiled its 'Mac Studio,' the highest performance Mac computer to date. The Mac Studio comes with several component options, such as Apple's M1 Ultra or M1 Max processors. The Mac Studio also contains an extra internal SSD slot, which is unique among Apple's products. For interface options, the Mac Studio has four Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, a high-speed Ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The inclusion of two standard USB-A ports on the Mac Studio is also unique amongst Apple products, making this computer a noteworthy release.
One other trend gaining steam in the computer sector is portability. The 'Steam Deck' is effectively a compact handheld Linux-based touchscreen computer built into a controller with several touchpads. This month, Microsoft announced that its Xbox Cloud Gaming service will be supported on the Steam Deck. This is excellent news as it points to the willingness from both Microsoft and Steam to collaborate on future-facing technology, even if only on the software side.
