Unity's 'Enemies' Trailer Showcases the Engine's Capabilities
Colin Smith — March 22, 2022 — Tech
'Unity,' the company behind the 3D game development platform of the same name, has released the 'Enemies' tech demo to showcase the capabilities of the newest 'Unity Engine' build. The Enemies short video opens on a woman sitting in a chair in an extravagant room. The room is full of minor architectural details to show off the visual fidelity, as well as windows and curtains to show off the physics engine.
The video then pans in to the woman, who is sitting in a chair in front of a chessboard. Every detail on the woman appears lifelike from the way her hair reflects light and flows as she turns her head to the way her clothes fold and rest on her body. Her eyes move realistically as she looks around the room, and her mouth appears to seamlessly mimic the movements of a real human as she begins to speak. As the video zooms in closer, we can see that the woman's throat muscles and hand muscles even contract as she speaks and moves.
This incredibly high level of realism is comparable to that of 'Unreal Engine 5,' which used 'The Matrix' to showcase its technology. This real-time cinematic 'Enemies' trailer has implications for not only the future of video game production but also for the future of cinema-grade CGI, special effects, or full realistic animated movies.
