From Fidget Spinners to Indoor Inflatable Forts

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the 2017 toy trends show that this past year will be remembered for fidgeting. Of course, fidget spinners emerged to become perhaps the biggest toy sensation of this decade. However, the simple spinning props inspired scores of spinoffs, so to speak, with companies and designers releasing toys that provide all sorts of different ways to relieve excess energy.
Though many toys incorporate some aspect of gamification or imagination, fidget spinners are unique because they only spin. There's almost no room for creativity or play between partners when using a fidget spinner. This independent, mindless style of play leaked out into other toys in 2017, with not only fidget toys but desktop toys more generally becoming common ways to attract and distract consumers.
