In partnership with supermarket chain Billa in Austria, Ritter Sport is introducing paper chocolate wrappers to address low recycling rates. The sustainable packaging solution has been applied to the brand's Schoko & Gras bar, which shares the flavors of milk chocolate and hemp seed.
The brand first tested its paper packaging prototype earlier this year and the design has since been improved based on feedback. The packaging design was created to consider the automatic packaging process, transportation and the way the product is presented in stores to consumers. As Ritter Sport describes, "With our single-material packaging made of polypropylene, we save considerable amounts of material and thus energy, it is fully recyclable and—what is particularly important—it meets our requirements for product safety and optimal product protection."
