The Nestlé Smarties Bar is Now Wrapped in Paper in the UK
Michael Hemsworth — June 9, 2020 — Eco
The Nestlé Smarties bar has undergone a packaging overhaul in the UK to help make it more stainable and encourage consumers to recycle it after consumption. The bar is now packaged in 100% paper, which is produced on high-speed production lines that were previously used for creating laminate or plastic packaging. The packaging comes as part of the brand's shift towards more sustainable packaging solutions and is a big step towards reducing the production of single-use plastics for food products.
Business Executive Officer for Nestlé Confectionery in the UK and Ireland Richard Watson spoke on the new Nestlé Smarties bar paper packaging saying, "At Nestlé, we have committed to making 100% of our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. But we know we need to go further – and we are looking at a range of more sustainable packaging solutions for our confectionery products that can have an impact now. Moving the Smarties confectionery range to paper is one demonstration of this intent, and we are very pleased to introduce the Smarties sharing block in a fully recyclable paper wrapper.”
