From Folding Handheld PCs to Shallow Gasket-Mounted Keyboards
Colin Smith — July 23, 2022 — Tech
This list of July 2022 computers trends reflects that, while releases of new computer components were few and far between, many companies are pushing toward customizable computer peripherals, metaverse initiatives, and handheld computers.
The 'Penkesu' foldable PC is an excellent example of the rapid push toward affordable portable computers. While the trend has existed for many years now, it was accelerated rapidly and brought to the public eye through Valve's release of the 'Steam Deck.' Since then, mobile PCs such as the Penkesu have been appearing nearly every week. The Penkesu is an ultra-compact PC built in the form factor of a pen case. This PC is capable of running productivity applications such as web browsers, word processors, and more, with a small built-in keyboard, all while fitting in the user's pocket.
One of the most notable computer peripherals release this month is the 'Epomaker Lite.' This keyboard not only continues the trend of being hot-swappable and fully customizable, but also brings all-new features to the industry. Epomaker claims to have created an all-new 'shallow gasket-mounted' design for this keyboard which allows for a "completely unique tactile sensation" while typing. The design works by creating a small amount of resistance that increases the harder the key is pressed, meaning users do not simply press a key into a solid floor, but into a resistance band.
