Argentinian designer Andrés Reisinger created a collection of 10 virtual furniture designs and sold them at an NFT auction for $450,000. The virtual furniture pieces push past the limits of what can be created in the physical world and the digital objects can be placed in 3D virtual settings like Decentraland and Somnium Space and Minecraft. The Shipping collection includes five pieces that come with physical counterparts and introduce a "new hybrid reality."
One of the designs that exists only in the virtual world is the Deep Space sofa, which has an unconventional form made up of organic lines and undulating pieces.
Through the online marketplace Nifty Gateway, the virtual furniture designs sold in less than 10 minutes. There's also a custom piece that the Argentinian designer will be creating in collaboration with the highest bidder.
