Local studio Soup Architects designs a suburban house extension to improve the layout of a traditional English residence. The home is a classic 1920s-style structure that conforms to a well-defined aesthetic for the town of Weybridge. For the project, Soup Architects aims to modernize the "unusually shaped plot," thus connecting spaces that appear to have a neglected transparency. In particular, one of the main aspects of the brief called for establishing a dynamically fluid relationship between the semi-detached property and "a long north-facing garden that pivots as it extends away from the street."
Soup Architects addresses this problem of architectural communication through the suburban house extension that stretches across the width of the site. This does not only open up the space and mend the aforementioned problem, it also adds an agreeably unusual aesthetic to the home.
