Australian design studio Splinter Society completes renovation and extension of the Gardener's House which is defined by its plethora of outdoor spaces. The suburban home is designed for two avid gardeners who were looking to redefine their property and to achieve this, the team elevates the views looking out to the garden accessible throughout the home, bringing the main focus to the client's collection of orchids.
Splinter Society speaks to Dezeen about the project, sharing "The elderly clients were moving from a garden property in the hills about an hour from Melbourne, into an inner suburban site about three kilometres from the city. With gardening as a relaxation hobby, they wanted to be able to recreate the experience of their former property, albeit on a smaller site. The design strategy was to pull the new extension off the rear of the existing home, enabling northern light into the house, but also allowing the living spaces to be surrounded by the garden."
