Gianni Botsford Architects Creates the Reciprocal House

Local design studio Gianni Botsford Architects has added a geometric extension to the Reciprocal House located in Hamstead, London. The addition is a complement to the high-tech addition by Norman Foster from the 60s. The studio took on the project of maintaining the extension by also replacing the original space with a four-story home. It is trapezoidal in shape and is designed with a material palette inspired by the extension including concrete blocks and aluminum frame windows.
Director of the studio, Gianni Botsford shared with Dezeen, "My client was in contact with Norman Foster before buying the house, who was very open about what would happen with the house but asked only that he hoped 'you are able to maintain the original intended spirit of the home for you and family- one of lightness and a place to entertain. We looked at many options in an attempt to retain the original coach house but were unable, on such a restricted site, to achieve the spatial requirements of the brief."
