London-based design studio Cathie Curran has created an eye-catching patchwork facade on a derelict site in east London. The three-story building stands out with its use of hempcrete and timber.
The street-facing patchwork facade of Hempcrete Mewshouse features dark accoya wood panels, hempcrete blocks, and terracotta tiles. This combination of materials also goes beyond its innovative aesthetic, ensuring functionality and versatility for those living in the home. The accoya wood panels, for example, can be opened on a hot summer's day to increase ventilation in the home. The hempcrete blocks, on the other hand, have been waterproofed with lime render.
Warm interior features—from the oak joinery and furnishings to the oak-clad columns—contribute a sense of comfort to the overall aesthetic of Hempcrete Mewshouse.
