The DHaus Company Completes the Gingerbread House
Amy Duong — September 6, 2024 — Art & Design
Local design studio The DHaus Company has completed the Gingerbread House refurbishment project, which is a 1960s home located in Muswell Hill, a North London neighborhood. The space is updated and extended with a unique cladding of concrete shingles along the home originally built in the 60s. It is created with a blend of digital fabrication using arts and crafts as the influence.
The studio shares, "The first thing that caught our eyes as architects going on their first site visit was the existing facades – they were clad in a kind of concrete shingle. We were fascinated by this architectural dress, and wanted to see if we could blend the new rear extension with the rest of the shingle house. When researching shingle designs, we went down a rabbit hole that led us into a wondrous place of William Morris and arts and crafts."
