Although the typical museum experience may not be thought of as high-tech, Poland's MOCAK (Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow) is aiming to change this. Thanks to an app and the integration of beacon technology, the museum is changing the way visitors interact with pieces of artwork.
While visitors are still free to pick and choose the paintings, sculptures or displays that they want to look at closely in more depth, beacon technology at MOCAK gives the artwork more of an influence.
To try out this experience, museum visitors are required to download the MOCAK app, as well as have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. While walking through the museum, art pieces will "poke" users, which means that they will get a notification on their smartphone that provides more information, a place to favorite paintings and a map that shows where a visitor is relative to the rest of the museum.
