Recently, Copenhagen-based architects Jan Henrik Jansen and Marshall Blecher worked on a modern cottage renovation and extension. Located in North Germany, the project was called the Nieby Crofters Cottage and the structure, which was 120 years old, was practically in ruins. Thus, the modern cottage renovation was practically an almost complete overhaul.
Jan Henrik Jansen and Marshall Blecher had to completely rebuild most of the building and create a new interior layout that served the modern needs of the clients. The architects focused on "restoring the original facade," however, in order to preserve some semblance of the building's 120-year history. The extension of the Nieby Crofters Cottage delivers additional spaces for lounging. This site was previously a pigsty.
The design is shortlisted for the 2022 Dezeen Awards.
