British design studio Greenaway Architecture designs a new extension to the medieval Watercress Cottage in Bath, UK. It is a minimal addition defined by glass and steel details. It is right by the Farleigh Hungerford Castle ruins, which is actually in sight from the cottage's patio. The extension is connected to the main living area and the kitchen, which invites bright natural light to the historic building.
Greenaway Architecture explains that "Watercress cottage demonstrates that it is possible to extend a historic building in a way that respects it whilst making a positive contemporary architectural statement, the result of which is a new life for the building with amazing views. The design is an architectural expression which is both bold enough to demonstrate the commitment to quality and modernity and modest enough to sit happily in the historical setting."
