The 'FlipKart Camera' Let's Shoppers Visualize Before They Purchase
Niko Pajkovic — August 5, 2021 — Marketing
Indian e-commerce company Flipkart has launched the 'Flipkart Camera,' an AR-powered camera feature that will allow buyers to visualize furniture and appliances in their homes before buying them. The app was designed to make the process of purchasing large items online more predictable and engaging.
The new AR-based feature is easy to operate. Users open the app, select a product (couch, washing machine, dishwasher, etc.), then select "view in your room," and they will be presented with its lifesize, 3-D rendering, which they can maneuver around their space. “You don’t need to come to the showroom, but I can give you a near showroom-like experience,” said Sai Krishna VK, co-founder of Scapic, a WebXR company that was acquired by Flipkart last year to build this new AR feature.
Considering the retail space is currently crowded with entertaining AR-based marketing campaigns, the 'Flip Kart Camera' feels distinctly practical; it highlights how brands can use AR to improve their shopping experiences tangibly and effectively.
