Gensler Honors Space Exploration with the New Flight Test Museum
Elena Rahman — March 8, 2022 — Art & Design
The Flight Test Museum in Antelope Valley north Los Angeles is reimaged by architecture firm Gensler. The firm released plans for the new design that combines the dimensions of an airport hanger with the shape of the Nighthawk aircraft, an American stealth plane built in the 19800s.
The new design honors the 75th anniversary of breaking the sound barrier and marks the growing commercial space explorations. The building will comprise 60,00 square feet and will resemble a hanger due to its metallic angular roof. A pavilion is formed over the glass entryway from the roof's sloped shape, creating shelter for visitors. Gensler's Test Flight Museum will remain on the site of the current museum and feature undulating wing components.
