Chicago architecture studio Jahn has used large steel trusses to create the Pritzker Military Archives Center building. It is also defined by its use of a glass envelope with a structure that is backed by amphibious landing vehicles. The space is meant to support a wide array of functions, showcasing an exhibition of documents and other artifacts and the presentation from those in the US military.
The managing director of Jahn, Philip Castillo speaks to Dezeen about the influence behind the design, sharing "Everything has some military inspiration. We really wanted a building that was rough and tough like a piece of military equipment. The welds on the trusses are not ground. The bolts are exposed."
