El Tesoro, a tequila brand owned by Beam Suntory, has announced the launch of the Mundial Collection, an experimental series of tequilas finished in barrels from premium spirit makers located across the world.
The Mundial Collection: The Laphroaig Edition will be the first exclusive bottling to be included in the collection. This unique offering was aged in ex-Bourbon barrels for nine years before being taken by master distiller Carlos Camarena, where it was finished for four months in casks that had previously held the peat-forward Laphroaig 10 Years Old.
As a result, this first-of-its-kind tequila conjures flavors of citrus, oak, cooked agave, leather, pineapple, berries, and peat, while the palate delivers notes of roast pepper, maple, bacon, and salt.
“While we continue upholding the traditional processes that have made El Tesoro the treasure of Jalisco, we also like to experiment with ways to bring Tequila production to a different level," said Camarena, referring to the brand's latest offering.
