To get people excited about animal adoption, these ads, campaigns and photos turn pleas for people to adopt into fun songs, dances, or funny online interactions.
Pets like Maru, Grumpy Cat, Doge and Tuna the dog have a conquered quite a bit of the Internet—as well as many people’s hearts—just with their very distinct personalities. Some of these campaigns play off of this idea too, like a meme-inspired campaign by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) that depicts a flying "hovercat."
One of the best examples of an unusual, but effective way to get people to see themselves with an adopted pet was the "muttbombing" campaign by Dallas Pets Alive! that had puppies photobomb selfies taken by random users on Instagram.
