Belgium is more than beer, chocolate, and waffles. The country of 10 million people, split dead-center between the Flemish and the French-speakers, has certainly made it loud and clear that they have plenty of brilliant ideas to unleash on us all. From racy advertising campaigns to out-of-the-box architecture, the country is not the boring meeting ground for grey-haired politicians as the media often makes of it.
Antwerp is quite possibly the one and only unpretentious fashion-genius capital of the world, and the medieval beauty of Ghent and Brugge are unmatched. Admittedly, my love for a Belgian man makes me oblivious to the bone-chilling winters, but the colorful intermix of Brussels leaves no excuses for missing this destination.
