Yoko D’Holbachie illustrates colorful critters that (to me at least) look like alien versions of Hello Kitty characters. Of course, this artist is more inspired by Jim Woodring's images of weird and wonderful creatures as well as surreal and oddball environments than the iconic cat.
Born in Yokohama and based in Tokyo, this Japanese painter is certainly not lacking in creativity or imagination (not to mention talent and skill). Yoko D’Holbachie's artwork not only centers on chromatic wonderlands that are extremely captivating, each piece of art is so intricate and detailed; I cannot imagine how long it must have taken for her to finish each one.
Yoko D’Holbachie's work, as Life Lounge puts it so aptly, is the perfect blend of adorable and grotesque, although personally, I think the cute factor wins.
