Masako Miki's New Mythologies series of bronze sculptures are inspired by Japanese folklore. The series features shape-shifting spirits that explore human identity and transformation. The Osaka-born artist uses the Japanese Shinto concept to inform her sculptures' unique shapes.
The solo exhibition showcases the artist's use of bronze, watercolor paintings, and felt in her sculptures. Using various textures and colors further instills the concept of Tsukumogami yōkai, shape-shifting spirits that occupy household objects. Located in San Francisco, the show is curated and hosted by Cult Aimee Friberg Exhibitions. It is currently on view at Fused Space within Yves Behar's global design firm Fuseproject. Masako Miki aims to continue her ongoing playful motifs through the New Mythologies series' explosive pops of colors.
