These iconic painting remakes puts a contemporary spin on classic masterpieces. Reinterpreting famed pieces of artwork is a common move by artists, as much of great art consists of drawing inspiration from those that have gone before. Many of these pieces are recreations of well-known portraits made out of unusual materials, while others insert new subjects into the original work. This is especially the case with characters from pop culture, like Miley Cyrus, LEGO, the Muppets and the Simpsons.
Many of the iconic paintings people choose to redo are based on Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Other popular subjects include 'The Girl with the Pearl Earring' and Monet's surrealist landscapes. This is not to mention Frida Kahlo's self-portraits, the work of Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol, 'The Scream' and 'The Last Supper.'
