The new Walmart Winemakers Selection line offers up a new range of 10 private-label wines. To curate the wines in the Walmart Winemakers Selection line, the retailer established a core group of Walmart wine buyers who worked closely with various winemakers. The wines featured in the selection encompass multiple styles and include a red blend, a Chianti Classic, a Chianti Riserva and a Sangiovese from Italy.
According to Al Dominguez, senior vice president of merchandising at Walmart, the approach of the Walmart Winemakers Selection line was to work "directly with winemakers” rather than canvas the world and scale to fit the company. Dominguez also added that most of the bottles will retail for $11 but will "drink like a $30 bottle."
