The Tainan Axis or T-Axis project is an architectural project, put together by Dutch firm MVRDV, that is part of an ambitious redevelopment project to reinvent the waterfront area in the region of Tainan in Taiwan into a veritable urban lagoon.
The project will see a 1980s shopping mall taken apart to create a pedestrian-friendly space that will include retail spaces as well as an artificial beach and urban lagoon inside the former undergroudn parking garage. MVRDV's Winy Maas says that "this flooded old mall is going to be a poetic lagoon and a hip urban pool, a symbolic act".
