Architect Iñaki Echeverria has finished the first few phases of the Lake Texcoco Ecological Park, which is an eco-park that is three times the size of Manhattan. This park is located in Mexico City and the project calls for a regeneration and building of the public infrastructure on the large wetland space.
This took 14,030 hectares of land to create, which means this is one of the biggest urban parks across the globe. Echeverria speaks about the design to Dezeen, stating "This is not really a project about Mexico City – it is a larger endeavour, it's the entire valley. By itself, it cannot guarantee the future of the valley, but it's a key to the larger regeneration of the area. Ecological restoration is not only about aesthetics it's about subsistence."
