A Shelton, CT couple, Joseph and Judy Rivnyak, were happy to see their 84-foot Norway spruce turned into the focal point at the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting. Officials from Rockefeller Center had approached the Rivnyaks last summer, asking if they would be willing to donate the massive tree for the Christmas celebration. They agreed, and the 84-foot Norway Spruce was transported to Manhattan on a 100-foot trailer.
Since word got out that the Rivnyaks were giving up the massive spruce for the Rockefeller Center Christmas display, people have stopped Judy in stores to express their appreciation.
"It has been so uplifting for the community," she said. "People are thanking us for donating the tree - it has given them so much happiness.
"It has become such a big part of people's lives," she said. "We have gotten cards from people just thanking us for doing this."
