The Meteorite is a cross-laminated timber cabin designed by Kivi and Tuuli Sotamaa, a brother-and-sister duo behind the Ateljé Sotamaa firm. Geometric by design, the structure boasts a multi-faceted shape in all-black laminated timber. The black-tinted exterior provides a striking contrast to the warm and wooden interior.
Interestingly, the cabin does not contain any plastic or insulation. Two sheets of wood are placed adjacently with a gap between them. The air in the gap helps to regulate indoor temperature. It is effective even throughout the subarctic Finnish climate during the winter. Moreover, the "between space" acts as storage and preserves the building's technical systems to maintain a minimalist feel throughout the interior. Clad in spruce from floor to ceiling, the Meteorite's interior spans three floors.
