TY-KU Lights Up When You Pour
Anton M. Steeman — March 9, 2008 — Lifestyle
As may be expected from sake, this liqueur does not have the so typical after taste other alcoholic drinks have. TY-KU is a liqueur distilled from more than 20 ingredients, natural aphrodisiacs, health supplements and fruit extracts. Perfect for on-the-rocks.
But that is only part of the fun.
Marketed as "world's first sake liqueurâ€, TY-KU gives another meaning to the term "light". The jade-green liquid in the custom developed bottle will be illuminated every time the bottle is lifted. The secret behind the gleaming liquid is a LED light using a small battery.
Made in China, the frosted screen printed glass bottle has very typical Asian characteristics. The pyramid shaped bottle is ergonomically modelled in such a way that the rounded edges fit comfortably in the hand. The shape is perfect for illumination, accentuated by the flat sides of the bottle, the thickness and the quality of the glass.
The bottom contains the electronics for the illumination, consisting of a LED-light in a hermetically sealed membrane, which will be activated by lifting the bottle. The light receives its energy from two long-life alkaline button batteries.
The bottom as well as the top closure is injection blow moulded from chrome-coated acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic. The heavy closure holds an insert of 100% natural cork. The way in which the electronic components are housed makes it possible to easily recycle the bottle as the bottom can be removed.
