The Coffee Bar has been unveiled by Plamil Foods in the UK as the world's first candy bar crafted out of coffee beans rather than cocoa beans without compromising on taste or texture. The chocolate-like bar is reported to have a smooth texture that's similar to conventional chocolate, but sees the whole coffee means roasted in small batches to bring out their best flavor before being processed into the bar. The treat is arriving at just the right time to coincide with the recent increased price of chocolate and cocoa bean shortages as brands seek out alternative options.
CEO Adrian Ling commented on The Coffee Bar saying, "Nobody has done this before – the great taste and smooth mouth feel is due to unique production technique. It’s taken a year of intense development, but we finally cracked the recipe to create a coffee bar. Coffee made into a bar is a simple concept that sounds strange, but a coffee bar makes a lot of sense if you compare coffee to chocolate. 175 years ago, chocolate used to be a drink until Frys of Bristol made a chocolate bar.”
