Splinter Society designs the new Tear Away house which is originally a historical house located in Ivanhoe, which is a suburb of Melbourne. It is a two-story brick home that is connected to another house through a shared wall and the new renovation keeps a portion of the original structure with a vertical rupture that is seen in the form of an unfinished brick wall.
The new addition is contemporary and the concrete wall is left unfinished, and due to this, it creates a slightly industrial aesthetic to the new section. This is paired together with black details and wooden elements in the form of the black steel winding staircase and wooden stairs for a unique and industrial contrast.
