While gleaming residential towers have often been restricted to the wealthy and the upper middle-class, there is a growing movement towards embracing mixed-use setups as a means of addressing the global housing crisis whilst also bringing people together and breaking down barriers in urban communities, which is precisely the approach that Mecanoo is taking with its residential towers planned for The Hague in the Netherlands.
These residential towers will be home to 1,400 residential units which combine social housing, mid-range units and market-rate rental properties. What's more, the building will be equipped with several shared facilities to allow for a vibrant lifestyle, while amenities such as electric cars and shared bicycles will encourage eco-friendly transportation.
The buildings will also be topped with a rooftop garden, while the lower levels will play host to retail and office spaces and a restaurant.
