While Ireland may be known for its whiskey, craft distillery Glendalough recently churned out a limited-edition Sloe Gin that demonstrates the country's diverse alcoholic offerings.
Sloe Gin is a small-batch gin create by Glendalough for the winter 2016-2017 season. The spirit itself is made with sloes, which are a dark, tannic fruit. After the sloes are picked, they are pierced with a thorn and then added to Glendalough’s famed botanical gin. Over time, the sloes turn the gin a deep ruby red and give it a lightly fruity flavor. Moreover, despite the addition of the sloes -- which dilute the spirit -- the gin still boasts a 43% ABV.
With only 120 bottles of the ruby-hued spirit available, the gin serves as a premium alcohol option for discerning drinkers.
