Seth Armstrong was commissioned to create a series of illustrations that combine two of our favorite things, literature and travel, for the Mr. Porter Journal.
The feature, which is titled 'Book Your Stay,' consists of Armstrong's paintings of some of the world's most classic novels against a backdrop of where the novel took place. How meta. We can't afford to tour the sites of all of our favorite books, but Armstrong's delightful series will make us feel like we've made the pilgrimage.
The accompanying journal article reads, “The joy of reading a book is often in the escapism. Physically you might be sardined into a commuter train en route to the office[,] but mentally you could be On the Road across America with Mr. Jack Kerouac or spending A Year in Provence in the company of Mr. Peter Mayle.”
