Saype's 'What's a Great Man' Hillside Portrait Will Soon Disappear
Hayley McGlone — August 14, 2016 — Eco
Saype turned the side of a hill into a canvas with his 'What's a Great Man' portrait.
Saype's portrait was drawn on a hillside with biodegradable materials, so his artwork won't be a permanent fixture in Leysin, Switzerland. Saype used flour, linseed oil, water and natural pigments to create the fresco portrait. Saype chose Leysin so that the surrounding mountains would dwarf the giant portrait. Saype used a drone to check his work each day, to see if he needed to make any changes or fix any mistakes.
The hillside portrait looks like an elder gentlemen taking a nap on the hill. The outfit design of the man is very European, with him wearing suspenders, a hat and pipe.
