Spain-based biotech food startup Rollito Vegano has created the world's first 100% plant-based Serrano ham -- also known as "jamón" – a cured ham that is famously enjoyed across the nation.
Founded by plant-based food activists Hugo Del Toro and Alex Oprea during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rollito Vegano redefines cured meat with a sustainable alternative that is made from a blend of natural ingredients. These include rice flour, wheat gluten, coconut oil and beetroot that are blended with natural flavors and colors, without relying on many additives.
"Not only does it come at a fraction of the environmental and carbon footprint while still boasting an impressive 37-grams of protein per 100-gram serving, Rollito Vegano’s version also comes in 100% compostable and biodegradable packaging to ensure minimal waste."
