This Gritty Marvel Series Reintroduces Red Wolf as Its Hero
Charlotte Joyce Kidd — September 9, 2015 — Pop Culture
For the first time since 1976, Marvel's Red Wolf character will be the hero of his own comic book series.
Marvel is releasing a new generation of its line of comics, in which many of their superheroes are getting race or gender makeovers -- for example, the Hulk is now Asian-American and Thor is a woman. The change is being touted as an "all new, all different" update for the legendary comic publisher.
Red Wolf isn't undergoing a transformation, just being revived from his last run as the protagonist of his own series. Since 1976, he has only been featured as a minor character in the Marvel universe. Many comic book fans are excited for the unique situations and adventures that will be inspired by a Native American superhero located in the American Southwest -- two areas that are largely uncharted territory for Marvel.
