Birk Heilmeyer Und Frenzel Architekten Revamp an Air-Raid Shelter
Kalin Ned — June 15, 2021 — Art & Design
This captivating green and red daycare center occupies the site of an abandoned air-raid shelter. The rectangular building is designed by local practice Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten who was commissioned by daycare provider KiTa Parkstrasse.
The red daycare center is located close to the Park Villa Berg in Stuttgart. The design of the space is eclectic, with a number of spaces designed to bring together synergies for parents and their children. The site also includes an outdoor playground.
The foundations of the old air-raid shelter were used by Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten who also employed lightweight, prefabricated timber for the structure. The reason behind the red color choice correlates to the fact that the nuance creates a stand-out contrast with the green surroundings.
